New Japan should sell an edited together version of their weekly programming to a US based streaming service. The deal should also include the original New Japan Strong Series. The move would allow them to get more eyeballs on their product in the US and sell people to persue tne rest of their product on New Japan World. Which would be beneficial with them not having a tv deal in the US since the devorce from AXS TV.
AEW should talk to ITV about getting an extra hour of original programming to produce a UK Series. AEW UK would be competition to NXT UK and allow AEW to stock pile European Talent. As well as give the. mpre ways to use the international talent they already have . Pac would be a great centrepiece for the UK promotion
Konnan revealed that Salina De Renta has been Contra’s inside person . She is the reason they were able to get access to the building all this time. The story is that she was in debt and got paid off by Contra. The relationship was up and down ( They had tension when La Parka challenged Fatu for the MLW title) but its likely she helped them take control of MLW. Court Baurer is promising sanctions for her betrayal.
Impact could edit together some NOAH, AAA, and other international footage into a new series for English language viewers. Perhaps they could cut a deal with a UK fed too. Having a Global Impact series on AXS would be a positive. It would really only need to be a one hour show with matches and video packages. Obviously it would be easier to do this post pandemic.Tags: None
Next TV has a story that is worth following from ROH’s perspective. Things haven’t gone well for their Fox RSNs due to cordcutting and the pandemic accelerating things. There is some talk Sinclair could even exit the business. While some advocate the move others suggest they wait out the pandemic.
This obviously could impact ROH since their series has been airing on these RSNs. And it is a potential outlet for a live show down the line. And really anything that effects Sinclair had an after effect on ROH. The good news is that the RSN’s are controlled through a subsidiary that they own a majority ownership with. So if Diamond Sports does go bankrupt the rest of Sinclair will surivive. ROH would persumably remain on the rest of Sinclair Affilates..
Anthem should talk to CBS Viacom about buying Bellator, Pop TV, and the Spike TV assets( include shows like Bar Rescue ect..). A move that would greatly benefit the company and itt currend subsidaries.
AXS TV could replace Pop TV on Cable line ups that don’t have AXS TV or have it on weaker tiers. Which would get AXS on Comcast on annual national basis for the first time. Whatever cable systems they overlap would just have an AXS 2. Gicsn the station a second feed. AXS would have dramatically better carriage and a whole new tape library to exploit.
Bellator would be a huge asset for live sports programming and work well with Impact. MMA programming and wrestling programming would work together well in the same synergy. The cross promotion would not only help AXS …It would make programming both promotions stronger as a result. Both properties could be leveraged to streaming services like DAZN or ESPN Plus.
Shows like Bar Rescue would only boost AXS TV’s programming. Allowing the station itself to become more of a destinations. The addition of the Spike TV library and IP could also prove useful to sell to streaming services or for Anthem to start their own. Bellator programming could slot right into Impact Plus as it is.
Spike TV was started when Viacom made the decision to rebrand The National Network inro a network for me under the latter brand name. The station struggled to fill this nitch. But had success with the WWE Rww Brand Viacom had already acquired in the TNN days. The successful business relationship with UFC helped to boost the stations profile. UFC becoming the dominate brand once WWE left to return to USA Network..
Spike gave a change to Impact Wrestling and acheived mild ratings success. Able to sell UFC and Impact commercial spots as a package. Once UFC left for Fox Viacom purchased Bellator to act as its MMA programming. By that point Spike abandoned its male driven format to attract a more mainstream demo.
The loss of UFC hit the station hard and over time Impact ratings slipped to a degree. Spike later made the decison to part ways with Impact Wrestling after losing faith in the promotion over management issues. Spike TV lost more ground and waw eventually rebranded to Paramount. Recently the combined CBS Viacom has decided to turn Paramount into a made for tv movie network. Bellator moving to CBS Sports and any other programming once associated with Spike set to move elsewhere in the CBS Viacom portfolio.
Pop TV was started out as the rebranded TV Guide Channel. Airing older shows in the CBS library. It later became a home for Impact Wrestling. Eventually letting the brand ago. After the CBS Viacom merger Pop became part of the greater Viacom Cable Library. And seems posed for a rebrand if it remains as part of the CBS Viacom family.
Bellator was a smaller MMA promotion that originally aired programming on MTV 2. After UFC acquired Strikeforce it became the de-facto number 2 promotion. Leading to the Viacom purchase and its move to Spike TV that came soon after.
New Japan Pro Wrestling should work with Impact Wrestling.
Working with Impact would get them back on AXS and give NJPW talent a lot of fresh matches. The company once had air time on AXS TV but this ended when Anthem ( Impact ‘s parent company ) bought a majority ownership in the station.
The move would also give fresh match ups to Impact Wrestling and more programming for AXS TV. In the lrkcess Impact would get more tslent depth and a place to send their own talent to get better.
Impact worked with New Japan in the mod 2000’s.The original relationship collapsed when New Japan wasn’t happy with how Impact was using the talent they sent them. More specifically when Vince Russo booked Okada as a lone ranger like sidekick of Samoa Joe.
The company is under completely different management and owned by different owners . So those grudges should not effect a future relationship in the mind of this writer.
New Japan has had a working relationship with Ring of Honor Wrestling for several years. A relationship that culminated with a co-promoted sellout at Madison Square Garden. The relationship seemed to thaw for awhile after this show. But they did start to exchange talent before the carona virus pandemic made touring and international travel extremely difficult.
New Japan has also spent the last several years expanding into the United States and has booked their own domestic television shows. Aside from the previous deal with AXS TV. They currently are producing empty arena US based show called New Japan Strong. With aid from United Wrestling Network promoter Dave Marquez.
NJPW President Harold Meij is leaving the company in the coming weeks. As originally reported by New Japan itself on Sept 29, 2020.
Wrestlinginc has reported that WWE will be taking over its talents third party twitch accounts. A move that will see WWE recieve all the monetary game (with a cut going towards the talent that will go against their downside guarantee).
